đź’‘ Modern Husbands: A Relationship-First Approach to Managing Money Together

Talking about money with your partner isn’t always easy—but it’s absolutely essential. That’s where Modern Husbands comes in. This site is all about helping couples manage their finances together, with tools and advice designed to strengthen both your money game and your relationship.

I spent some time exploring their free resources to see how helpful they really are—and whether they’re worth recommending. Here’s what stood out (and what didn’t quite land). ________________________________________________________________________________________________

đź’ˇ What I Loved

🧠 The Budgeting Course for Couples

Their Money Marriage U: Budget course is one of the best free resources on the site. It walks couples through how to create a shared budget while addressing the emotional side of money—like your spending habits, financial stress, and communication style. I appreciated how it featured leading financial psychologists like Dr. Brad Klontz and Dr. Bruce Ross.

It’s self-paced, easy to follow, and honestly something I wish more couples had access to. If you and your partner need help getting on the same financial page, this is a great place to start.

📚 Straightforward Articles

Modern Husbands offers a library of articles organized by topic: home buying, budgeting, parenting, relationships, and more. It’s easy to navigate and doesn’t feel overwhelming. Whether you’re prepping to buy a house or just want to figure out how to split the grocery bill fairly, there’s something useful here.

📝 Quizzes That Spark Conversation

There are two main quizzes:

  • Financial Health Survey – A great check-in to see how your finances are doing.

  • Marriage & Credit Quiz – This one was especially impressive. It helps you understand how your relationship status can impact your credit—and vice versa.

Heads up: You do need to sign up for their newsletter to access the quizzes. That may be a downside for some, but the content is solid. ________________________________________________________________________________________________

🤔 What Needs Work

🍼 The Family Planning Calculator

This tool estimates your household budget over the next 15 years, factoring in things like childcare, basic expenses, and retirement savings. It’s a cool concept—but it’s more of a big-picture conversation starter than a practical, everyday tool. Plus, you can’t save or export your plan, which limits its usefulness.

🎓 The “Free” Course That’s... Not So Free

The Money Marriage U Save course is advertised as free, but only a small preview is actually available unless you pay. Even after signing up for the newsletter (which promises access), I still only received the preview. It’s a bit misleading, and that’s frustrating—especially if you’re trying to find real help without spending money.

🛠️ Borrowed Tools Without Credit

Some of the budgeting and credit tools on the site come from other organizations like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and Freddie Mac. That’s not a bad thing—they’re excellent resources—but Modern Husbands doesn’t always make it clear where the content originated. A little more transparency would go a long way. ________________________________________________________________________________________________

âś… Bottom Line

Modern Husbands is a strong resource for couples who want to improve how they manage money—together. The budgeting course and quizzes are especially helpful, and the site’s relationship-first approach makes tough conversations a little easier to start.

That said, some of the tools are more surface-level, and a few come with frustrating access issues. Still, for couples just beginning their financial journey or looking for new ways to communicate, it’s a website worth checking out—with a few caveats.
